A historic chronicle of Canadian artists
The Arts and Letters Club of Toronto maintains an extensive archive that chronicles its rich history and that of its members since its founding in 1908.
The collection encompasses a diverse array of materials, including concert programs, press clippings, Christmas music, and records related to notable members such as Healey Willan and Murray Adaskin.
These records feature biographical notes, correspondence, manuscripts, and photographs, providing insight into the club's vibrant cultural activities.
For researchers interested in exploring these archives, a significant portion is housed at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library in Toronto. The collection is accessible to scholars, historians, and other researchers upon request.
These archives not only preserve the club's legacy but also offer valuable resources for those studying Canada's artistic and cultural history.
Mission of the Club Archives: to document the administration and activities of the Club and its members, for the use and benefit of both; to collect, preserve and make available the permanently valuable records of the Club for research by the corporation, its membership, scholars and the general public.
Archivists are present on Wednesday afternoons and Fridays, otherwise by appointment.
